The FI community is straight-up awesome because we all respect each other’s ambition for a perfect lifestyle.
Even though we all have different plans and different timeframes, this community is full of extremely supportive people.
In my estimation, the FI community is overwhelmingly supportive because it’s filled with unique individuals that have their own plans as well.
Anyways, this is really a lifestyle community about freedom like Nike is a lifestyle community about sports.
That’s why we understand each other—financial independence is about living your most perfect lifestyle.
Financial Independence is definitely not just about piling money.
FI is about attaining your most perfect lifestyle.
The money part of personal finance blogging is to show you how to reach freedom.
Once you understand that it is possible to reach your own version of freedom, and once you find a suitable investment strategy and savings plan, you can decide every detail about the lifestyle you’re aiming for.
Your style, identity, clothing, work choices, location choices, everything—it all becomes optional.
This is why I believe financial independence needs to be marketed the same way Nike is represented. They honour great athletics. RTC honours freedom.
The Perfect Lifestyle is the Real Reason behind Financial Independence
In my case, I love blogging, photography, writing and investing. I need to save and invest enough money so that a combination of my interests pay enough to live on.
But obviously we all have different interests. So your reason for saving and investing to reach FI is different.
Maybe you just want to spend more time with family and friends, which is a valid reason, you can apply the same strategy as I am to have more time for that.
Perhaps you like camping and the outdoors, which is another awesome reason, the same strategy works.
Maybe you’re an artist with a starving artist mentality, which is an honourable reason, find a side job, save 10% of your money and pretend it doesn’t exist while simultaneously investing it in an S&P 500 index fund. One day you’ll be able to earn income from art and investments.
Want to travel more? It’s another compelling reason for FI, because it’s mind-expanding. Plus you can take photos…Well, save 25 times the amount it would cost you per year, invest it, then live off the interest, dividends and capital gains.
Wish you were a musician? Start living a lost cost lifestyle then save 25 times the cost. Invest it then live off the interest, dividends and capital gains.
Or maybe you don’t want to do anything at all… I couldn’t endorse this reason because it might lead to unhappiness. But you could definitely find a way to save enough to do fuck all.
Whether you like fashion, design, photography, travelling or even if your dream is to become an entrepreneur, financial independence could be the support system behind your craft.
Concluding Thoughts
Now you know saving money is not about greed.
The reason behind the money is why financial independence is worth pursuing.
Life is too short to be without personal fulfillment, work you love, exploration, and honestly just experimenting with the short amount of time we have. You can really do anything you want if you’re willing to put in the work and as long as it brings value to others.
In summary, financial independence is about choosing your most perfect lifestyle. The money behind it all is just the support system.
