Blog income report June 2021: Sharing how much blog income was earned, detailing website traffic, and discussing marketing strategies. This post contains affiliate links.
It’s no secret that I am pursuing financial independence through blogging and investing.
Eventually, my goal is to support myself financially with money earned from blogging and dividends from my investments.
On the blogging side, I earn income from display ads, affiliates, and the occasional sponsored post.
Last month, I decided to start sharing my blog income and website traffic to document the journey.
Since I received a lot of positive feedback, I decided to make the blog income report a recurring segment.
In this article, I will reveal how much blog income was earned in June 2021, and share my website traffic and marketing strategies.
Let’s dive in.
Blog Income Report June 2021: Why I Share My Blog Income
The main reason why I share my blog income is because it fits in line with the tagline of this blog (financial independence through blogging and investing).
Ultimately, I am trying to reach financial independence through blogging and investing.
So, it makes sense to share how I plan to accomplish this.
On the investing side, I share monthly dividend income updates to show how I am building an income stream through investing. Ideally, this helps other investors learn how to earn dividend income.
On the blogging side, I share how much my blog earns, website traffic, and marketing strategies. Ideally, this helps bloggers learn how to grow a blog and make money from blogging.
In addition, I share my blog income so bloggers have a realistic idea of how much work blogging requires. Simply put, blogging is not a get rich quick scheme. It takes a lot of work and effort. Hopefully these blog reports help readers realize if being a blogger is something they want to pursue.
Besides those reasons, I love blogging and I am an analytical person. I am so grateful to be able to blog and earn money from something I would do for free.
For more reasons on why I share my blog report, check out the May 2021 Blog Income Report.
Blog Income Report June 2021: $60.69
In total, I earned $60.69 from blogging in June 2021.
This was a steep drop from the $233.03 that was earned in May 2021.
The main reason why blog income declined compared to last month was because there were no affiliate sales paid out.
The entirety of this month’s income was from Monumetric display ads.
On the bright side, income from Monumetric display ads was up over last month. Last month, display ads generated $50.17, which was $10.52 less. This means month-over-month blog income from display ads was up by 21%.
Otherwise, I did log one affiliate sale, but it wasn’t paid out in July, so it will show up in the July report.
Earnings Breakdown
Monumetric display ads – $60.69 (after USD to CAD conversion)
Gross income – $60.69
Net profit – $1.04
Expenses Breakdown: $59.65
I spent a total of $59.65 on the blog in June 2021, which was just slightly under earnings.
Fortunately, the blog was still profitable by a narrow margin, which is my goal at this point.
Since I don’t rely on any of this money to live on, my goal is to reinvest most of it back into the blog.
In terms of managing the money, I pay myself first 10% of earnings into a brokerage account. Then I hold the rest of the money in a separate chequing account that I pay for blog expenses from.
Technically, I ran a deficit this month because I saved $6.07 of earnings. However, my blog spending account has around $115 in it and has been growing by the month.
This month, expenses were basically recurring costs only. I spent on web hosting, Canva Pro for marketing, and Ubersuggest, which is a keyword tool.
Expenses Breakdown
Ubersuggest – $29.00
Canva Pro – $16.99
Bluehost Webhosting – $13.66
Total – $59.65
Traffic Breakdown – Blog Income Report June 2021 – 13,223 Page Views
The blog hit 13,223 page views in June 2021.
Compared to May 2021, page views were up by 1,238 or 10.33%. This is with one less day in the month.
Compared to the same month last year, page views were up by 3,389 or 34.5%.
More importantly, though, the number of sessions increased over last month by a modest 1.84%.
Compared to last year, sessions were up by 2,070 or 66%.
Furthermore, the number of users increased by 92.6% or 1,892 compared to June 2020.
The only bad sign was that the month-over-month users decreased slightly by 3.58%. Frankly, though, month-over-month is not a great indicator because blogging is a seasonal business.
Traffic is expected to dip during the summer season. Ultimately, more people are outside when the weather is warmer. The reopening is also a factor.
I expect that the next few months will be challenging for page view growth. But then page views should start to jump again in the fall.
All data is from Google Analytics.
Traffic Demographics
The bulk of June’s page views were from the United States and Canada.
A whopping 51% of traffic was from U.S. users, and just under 24% were from Canada.
No other country accounted for more than 3% of total website traffic.
All data is from Google Analytics.
Website Marketing Strategies – How Traffic Was Generated
Now that you know how many page views were received and where they came from, I wanted to review how the traffic was generated.
Similar to last month, organic search dominated traffic in June 2021. Over 52% of my traffic was from organic searches.
Compared to June 2020, organic search traffic was up by a massive 557%. I hope I can keep this growth up!
The second highest generator of traffic was social media, which accounted for 22.6% of traffic. Of that traffic, Twitter accounted for the bulk of it at 67%, and Facebook accounted for nearly 20% of all social media traffic.
Otherwise, Instagram chipped in 2 to 3% and Pinterest continued to be an absolute failure.
In total, Pinterest generated only 1% of my social media traffic. This is after Pinterest was the social media leader for my blog in 2019 and early 2020. I still don’t know what happened. But at this point, I have stopped spending time on it because of how useless it has become. I save one pin per post and that’s it.
The third highest traffic generator was from direct traffic. Direct traffic accounted for 21.6% of total traffic.
Besides that, referral traffic chipped in 2.6%, which was down by approximately 4% compared to May. I have an upcoming interview that will be featured on a popular site, so I hope to increase referral traffic next month.
Content In June 2021 – Blog Income Report June 2021
In total, I published 13 blog posts and updated 3 posts during the month.
This was exactly in line with the goals I set last month.
I have been sticking to a Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday posting schedule all year long.
In order to stick to this schedule, I write and schedule content in advance.

Social Media And Email Subscriber Growth In June 2021:
As I mentioned earlier, social media accounted for 22.6% of my total traffic in June.
Most of the traffic came from Twitter, as it generated approximately 67% of my traffic.
To market posts on Twitter, I use a combination of manual tweets and Hootsuite to schedule content.
Since I work more hours at my part-time job in the summer, I am relying on Hootsuite more than I would like to.
Fortunately, scheduling tweets has not stifled follower growth. At the time this post was written, Twitter followers were up by 21 over the previous month.
Regarding the other channels, Pinterest and Facebook grew by a modest 2 followers each.
Meanwhile, Instagram was the fastest grower since the last report. Based on the time this post was written, Instagram followers are up by 49.
Unfortunately, e-mail subscribers did not follow the same trajectory as social media. I gained some subscribers, but I also lost some, so the number of subscribers ended up unchanged.
Although this is an area of concern, I believe it is a result of having display ads and in-email ads in my emails.
Since I began monetizing my e-mail newsletter with ads, I have noticed that subscribers are more difficult to retain.
Admittedly, I am tempted to discontinue ads within emails. But I should see a payout in the near future, and I do think I can improve the e-mail so that it provides more incentive for subscribers.
Here is a breakdown of my social media followers and e-mail subscribers as of July 3, 2021: 6,376
Twitter – 3,466 followers (Up 21)
Pinterest – 1,625 followers (Up 2)
Instagram – 747 followers (up 49)
Facebook – 116 followers (Up 2)
E-mail subscribers – 422 subscribers (same)
Total RTC audience: 6,376 (Up 74)
Total comments published: 3,685
I also want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who comments, follows, or subscribes. Thank you so much! It means so much and I appreciate every single one of you. My goal is to continue to create content on blogging and investing that you will enjoy and learn from.
Goals For July 2021
I accomplished most of the goals I set last month and found it helpful to have blog goals to reflect back on. So, I decided to continue the goal-setting part of this report.
For the most part, I am looking to build on the goals that were established last month. Also, I just want to keep up with my marketing routine and daily checklist.
But this may prove to be challenging now that I am working more hours at my day job.
Anyways, here is a summary of my blogging goals for July 2021:
Write 13 new posts. I have consistently published 3 posts per week this year. To keep this up in August, I will have to write two posts per day on my days off work in July. Excluding today, July 3, 2021, I basically have 9 days off work to write. However, I plan on taking a vacation for two of those days—I’m going to a beach. So, that only leaves me with 7 days to write. Based on the current time today, it’s unlikely that I will be able to finish 2 new posts today. So, I will have to write two per day on my remaining 6 days off. It’s going to be challenging.
Update 4 posts. My strategy is to write new posts on days I don’t work at my day job. On days that I work, I focus on marketing and updating old content. Considering I updated 3 posts last month, my goal is to update 4 in July. Ultimately, I am improving these posts by adding new paragraphs, editing, standardizing, and adding new affiliate links.
Comment on 33 blogs. I commented on 32 blogs in June, so my goal is to comment on 33 in July. I keep this up to stay connected and to engage with the community. There are a lot of smart bloggers to learn from out there.
Publish a guest post. I haven’t been accepting guest posts for a long time for SEO reasons. But since I received an offer from a talented blogger in the fire community, and because it will help with my work load, I decided to test out a guest post this month. I look forward to sharing it.
Refine my e-mail newsletter. As mentioned, my e-mail subscription list is an area of concern. It has been steadily increasing for the most part this year. But it could definitely use an overhaul. As such, my goal is to somehow personalize it and make it more valuable for subscribers. Suggestions are appreciated.
Blog Income Report June 2021 – Final Thoughts
In summary, I made $60.69 from blogging in June 2021.
Although my blog income was lower than last month, I still managed to cover all my expenses and generate a small profit. Furthermore, my month-over-month display ad income from Monumetric increased by 21%.
If I combine my dividend income for June 2021 and blog income, my total passive income for June was $154.50.
Moreover, the blog hit 13,223 page views in June, which was up by 1,238 or 10.33% over the prior month.
As per usual, organic search dominated my traffic during the month. In total, 52% of my traffic resulted from organic searches. Compared to June 2020, organic search traffic was up by a massive 557%.
Otherwise, the overall social media and e-mail subscriber community grew by 74 people. Thank you so much to everyone who followed or subscribed!
Again, I am so grateful to be able to earn money from blogging. It’s something I would do for free, so any income I earn is greatly appreciated.
