Are work from home jobs legit? Yes, WFH is the best thing ever! And it’s here to stay. Here are 17 undeniable benefits of working from home.
For the last decade, I’ve been wondering why people still commute to work.
I mean, there is no legitimate reason why an office employee must physically be present at work when the internet is at home.
Then coronavirus came along and forced us to change the way we work. It propelled us 10 years into the future. Now the office works from home and uses Zoom to continue unnecessary meetings.
But is this just temporary until a vaccine is developed?
Are work from home jobs legit?
In this post, I will look at why work from home jobs are legit and why WFM (work from home) is here to stay.
Furthermore, I’ll give you 17 reasons why working from home is the best thing ever.
Are Work From Home Jobs Legit?
Yes, in 2020, work from home jobs are legit.
Plenty of work from home jobs were available even before the pandemic.
But now that it shifted the way we work, employers are offering employees the opportunity to work from home. Companies provide employees with equipment, and they empower them by allowing them to complete tasks while working from home.
So, work from home jobs are definitely legit. But the good work from home jobs are not easy to come by. By good, I am referring to jobs that pay a high wage, offer benefits, provide equipment, training, and an organization that provides quality long-term careers.
In short, you must make sure the company is legit, because, unfortunately, scams exist.
With this in mind, to determine if a work from home job is legit:
- Thoroughly research the company before applying.
- Apply for companies or organizations whose brand you are already familiar with.
- Don’t trust companies or organizations that ask for too much personal information or money.
- Seek to work from home at your current employer.
- Check Monster’s tips to spot a legitimate work from home job.
Work From Home Jobs are here to stay after Corona
In my opinion, work from home jobs are here to stay even after the pandemic is a distant memory.
Here are at least four reasons why:
The planet is beginning to care about climate change, future pandemics, investments by businesses, and it’s cost-effective for employers.
Most cities have started to install bike lanes so citizens can spend more time outdoors. Therefore, there is an environmental incentive to gain by working from home.
As for future pandemics, most employers are already planning for a second wave. Based on the challenges faced recently, especially for retailers and restaurants, businesses want to be prepared in case another emergency situation like this happens again. To ensure that they are better prepared, companies will keep more staff remote.
Furthermore, since most corporations are stingy, they will want to get the most out of the equipment they were forced to invest in. Laptops, monitors, and office furniture were unexpected expenses that many businesses were forced to incur. It is likely that they consider these expenses to be long-term investments.
More importantly, employers will save money through staff working from home. Simply put, if you can eliminate the cost of renting a commercial office space, there is more money leftover for the business.
Is Work From Home Better For Staff?
Yes, working from home is unquestionably superior to working in an office.
If you’re an introvert, you will be absolutely thrilled at the opportunity to work from home.
But if you’re an extrovert, you may experience a similar level of anxiety as introverts have had to deal with. Extroverts recharge by being around people, introverts recharge by being alone.
Overall, though, the benefits of working from home greatly outweigh the weaknesses.
I have recently started working from home and have never been happier with work in my life.
It has allowed me to create the office of my dreams, and I generally feel better about work on a daily basis.
Here are 17 amazing benefits of working from home:
1. You Spend Less Money (save money)
One of the most obvious benefits that comes with working from home is you spend less money.
In short, working from home saves money on transportation, food, and coffee.
Just by working from home, I am saving upwards of $425 per month.
Don’t judge me, but here’s how it breaks down:
I was spending $80 per month on Starbucks coffee, $120 per month on transit, and $224 per month on food.
Now I make Starbuck’s Pike Roast coffee at home, I spend nothing on transportation except for when I travel, and I’m spending $200 per month on food in total.
The amount of money saved by working from home is unbelievable.
2. Avoid The Soul-Crushing Commute
Another standout advantage of working from home is you get to avoid the soul-crushing commute.
Whether you drive a car or take transit, commuting is an awful waste of time.
It’s a dreadful, rushed, repetitive, soul-crushing way to start and end each day.
Since I’ve been working from home, I find myself with much more energy for making healthier dinners and completing chores.
It’s still kind of surreal when I sign off and shut down my laptop at the end of the day.
It feels easier to make money, because for me, the hardest part about work is actually going there.
In a way, your work day is so much shorter and easier, it feels like you’re cheating. In turn, you become more grateful and more motivated to put forth effort.
3. More Time In Your Day
Working from home is the most efficient way to add time to your life if you are not financially independent.
It’s even better than working 3 days per week, because you can earn more but still have more time.
To calculate how much time work from home adds monthly, there is a simple calculation:
Time saved = ((commute time * 2) + (time to get ready))* days worked per month
In my case, it looks like this:
Time saved = ((1*2)+(30))*20
Time saved = ((2)+(30))*20
Time saved = ((2.5))*20
Time saved per month = 2.5 hours per day * 20 days
Time saved = 50 hours per month
So, about an extra week’s worth of work per month is easily saved by working from home.
4. Time Goes By Faster At Home
One of the unexpected benefits of working from home is time goes by faster.
It’s bizarre.
You’re just sitting there working in your own place. The next thing you know, an hour went by.
Perhaps this feeling will fade when I am more used to working from home. But for now, it seems as though working in the comfort of your own home makes time go by faster.
Considering how fast the weekend goes by, it only seems fair.
5. It’s Easier To Eat Healthy
I worked downtown in one of the largest cities in the world before I started working from home.
To put it bluntly, it was next to impossible to eat healthy.
It’s all fast food, fried food, and unhealthy food disguised as being healthy.
It’s overpriced and not that clean either, to tell you the truth.
Anyways, I can confirm that it is much easier to eat healthier when you work from home.
Rather than reaching for a donut or something sweet when you’re drained, you have the extra time and energy to prepare a salad something moderately healthy.
6. It’s Cleaner
Of course, one of the main reasons we’re all moving our offices to our homes is because it’s cleaner.
Less germs, less sharing of devices, and less lunches packed into the same old, gross fridges.
Sharing computers and devices has become uncomfortable. Frankly, I’ve never thought it was sanitary or good for the computers.
Since the switch to working from home, I really appreciate the opportunity to sit in my own chair at my own clean desk, and to use a brand new personal laptop for work.
7. You Have Your Own Office
In my opinion, the worst office concept of all time is the open concept office.
An open office is full of distracting people and sensory sounds that make it nearly impossible to work. The way I see it, whoever designed the open office concept doesn’t actually want to work, they want to chat with co-workers.
Cubicles are a great solution to this problem. However, you know what’s better than that?
Your own office to yourself at home.
As someone who has always appreciated stationary, it has been a dream come true to allow myself to spend money on a professional office. Fortunately, my employer provided a laptop and monitor to work from home. But it was up to me to set up the office.
In turn, I purchased a high quality office chair with adjustable armrests, an office fan, and a wall divider to separate the bachelor apartment.
If you enjoy stationary, new technology, and working in a private office, working from home is a dream come true.
8. No Small Talk Or Office Distractions
In addition to commuting, one of the things I can’t stand about offices is small talk.
I mean, I’m there to do my job and make money.
It’s nice to make friends at work and hang out in your spare time.
But the water cooler talk and office distractions interrupt the work.
I want to work when I’m at work.
9. Customizable, Comfortable Environment
On top of customizing your office, you are in complete control of your culture and environment at home.
The temperature of the room is the temperature you are comfortable with.
You don’t have to ask someone if you can display something on your desk.
You can have a fan or micro-heater on your desk if you wish.
The options to customize your own environment and establish your own work culture are endless.
10. Better For The Environment
One of the most convincing arguments to adopt working from home is to save the environment.
It’s no secret that global warming is heating up the planet.
So why not cut traffic down and encourage working from home for those who can?
Considering all the effort to promote outdoor activities and bike lanes, I think the pressure to go green is why most employers will maintain a work from home work force.
11. Cozy Clothes
Working in a suit with a tie squeezing your neck is truly awful.
On the other hand, working in shorts and a comfortable t-shirt is a beautiful thing.
It’s a less restrictive, more breathable way to work.
But it’s important to not turn into a complete slob—you must wear clean, comfortable clothes and shower daily or nightly.
On the bright side, though, working from home leads to doing less laundry and needing less clothes.
12. Location
I like where I live. I really do.
But working from home has me thinking about buying a place outside the city.
If I no longer need to be downtown in the office, what’s the point of living in the city?
If restaurants and shopping centres require lineups and masks, there is less incentive to visit, shop or eat out.
Ultimately, this is why working from home is so brilliant—it’s possible to make the same money from home.
So for someone like me who works downtown, it’s possible to move farther out to afford a larger space.
As long as there’s an internet connection, it’s possible to work.
13. Better For Sleep
Because of the extra time gained from working from home, you get more sleep and an improved sleep pattern.
Instead of waking up 30 minutes earlier to shower and get ready, you can sleep.
In addition, being home all the time allows you to build better sleep patterns.
As a result of being in your own environment all the time, life is seemingly less interrupted.
Time isn’t being cut short by styling your hairdo for work, or by the commute, or by the pointless meetings. You can create more personal routines and that are not interrupted.
In turn, your sleeping pattern will slowly improve or change so that you get more sleep.
14. Empowering For Employees
Finally, hard-working employees have some breathing room.
It took a long, long time, but finally a boss isn’t breathing down your neck.
It’s so empowering.
Fortunately, I have a very self-managed job even before I started working from home. I hardly ever have meetings or discussions with my manager. Nobody really bothers me as long as I do my work. I just do my job and don’t have to take it home with me after work. I’m really lucky to have what I always wanted.
But working from home has taken it to a totally new level—I am part-time, remote, without any micro-management. I feel like a real adult.
Now that I’m working from home in a more self-managed role, I am able to take more pride in my work because my employer trusts me.
15. Breaks and Lunches are better
In the office, especially if you’re an introvert, it’s difficult to relax.
So, I’ve always left the office on my lunch breaks to escape the environment for a while. I will not eat at my desk under any circumstances.
But leaving the office takes time. If you bring a lunch, you have to rush back to the gross, shared fridge to get it and warm up your food in the gross, shared microwave. Or, if you buy your lunch, you have to decide what you want and you have to go there.
Now that I’m working from home, my breaks and lunches are rich in time. I just take 10 steps over to my kitchen to make whatever cuisine I feel like. Then, because I have so much time left over, I sometimes go for a quick run.
Alternatively, I can nap in a real bed, watch Netflix on a T.V., play video games, or get other work done.
16. Better for Side Hustles
If you have a small business and still work to support yourself financially, you will absolutely love working from home.
Of course, it depends on your job. Some jobs require constant attention. But if you have a job that has downtime, you will finally be able to use the downtime without feeling guilty.
Oftentimes, work culture makes people feel like it’s not ok to utilize downtime for other interests. They’d rather see you fake working for them than working on personal interests.
But if you work from home, all your downtime can be spent on side hustles and personal interests.
In my case, I spend a lot more of my downtime on marketing my blog now.
17. Less Work Related Errands
In addition to commuting and getting ready for work, there are many other tasks that we forget about.
For example, remembering to charge your phone or bringing a charger so the battery lasts. If you work from home, this is one less task to worry about.
Another example is meal prepping, if you take lunches to work. Simply put, working from home extends your weekend if you consider how much time one day of meal prepping per week requires.
And the list goes on. If you wear suits to work, you save time picking up and dropping off dry-cleaning. You can get your hair cut less, and you can do laundry less.
Working from home saves a lot of time on monotonous, work-related tasks.
Are Work From Home Jobs Legit? Concluding Thoughts
I struggle to comprehend why anyone would want to return to the office after the pandemic. I really do.
Even for employers, there are many benefits and reasons to let employees work from home.
But I also understand that everyone is different. Some people may prefer to go back to the office and that’s ok.
However, work from home jobs are legitimate and they are increasing in numbers. There are monetary benefits for the employers in the long-term, and at least 17 amazing benefits for employees at home.
If you are working from home, I’d be interested to know if your experience has been similar? Are you working from home yet? Do you prefer working in the office?
